Our Love Poem by Rodrigo Diaz

Our Love

Our love is new, bright, and unblemished by the passing of time.
We celebrate each day as a new joy to a young soul's revelry.
When every muscle, sinew, and bone of my body aches for you,
And it seems impossible that I could love you more,
My heart pangs anew, as never these many years have felt before.

But as our bodies, our love too will bear the test of time.
It will be subjected to the erratic whims of the years;
And face full force, thunderous storms;
Drift lost and without a stitch of hope;
Then be battered against life's rocky shores.

But unlike our bodies, our love needs not shuffle off a mortal coil.
Alas, our love never needs to grow old at all.
It doesn't need to show the wrinkles of unkind words;
Nor the desiccation of a multitude of unforgiven slights;
Nor even the decrepitness and apathetic dispassion of a love grown cold.

Our love can, if we allow it, remain as new and fresh as here and now.
So let us for this loves sake: avoid the occasional errant unkind word,
Forgive first rather than avenge the grudge, and keep our yearning
As vibrant as the singing of those birds on the that first morn of spring.
Let this love always be with us and give us life even past our graves.
