Silence Dehumanizes And Kills Poem by Hebert Logerie

Silence Dehumanizes And Kills

Silence diminishes, beheads and kills
Inactivity simply gnaws the heart and destroys
We must raise aloud our voice, we must make noise
And abort unheard echoes that stink
To wake up the deaf and the stateless
So that they can hear the sound of the putrid streams
The lagoons, the gullies and the stinking rivers
We must wake up the drunken dead who do not sleep
We must shake the soil and make our footsteps heard
The kleptomaniacs stole from mothers, fathers, uncles and aunts
The obnoxious misers have ruined the future of cousins and friends
We must wake up, get up, stand up to raise our voice in unison
Against the backstabbers, the charlatans who've stained our ways
By building roads so badly that flies and ants
Have refused to cross, and when it rains, the rats
Abandon these alleys and corridors, which are swollen with thugs
And hired assassins. Inactivity is eating away the fibers of the heart
Silence threatens, kills and spreads fears and phobias
We must defend the future of our children and our homeland
Silence kills and inactivity causes insomnia
We must say and do something. We must verbalize, externalize
And denounce the henchmen who continue to humiliate us
Grab the microphone
We must use our iPods, our phones
To film the foul worms that circulate in the streets
We must denounce the verses and the songs that stink
And the lyrics which hypnotize and destroy the cells of our brains
We must debase and expose their toxic words and their ills
Silence degrades, dehumanizes and kills
We must express ourselves in the streets
We must stop mulling over the names of the wicked dukes
All that is good is for life and bad things are short-lived
Justice must step in, justice must intervene
We must catch and arrest the foxes and the hyenas
We must reject everything that is bad or evil
By fighting for the joy of living and for quintessential peace.
