Sitting Across From A Muslim Woman Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Sitting Across From A Muslim Woman

Sitting across from a muslim woman while writing, wondering what
she's thinking of this American poet, what thoughts are going
through her mind as she watches me writing poetry.

Wondering if she has any feelings at all of wanting to be free,
independent and not a slave to men anymore, is she even think-
ing of anything.

Or has she been programmed not to think about these things,
like living free of men's enslavement, brutality, barbaric
ways towards women, a poor excuse for a culture of slavery,
rape and pedophilia, I wonder what she's thinking.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired by a muslim woman sitting across from me in physical therapy.
