Snapshots Of Alaska Poem by Lady Pattianna Urasz

Snapshots Of Alaska

Rating: 5.0

Crising through the inner passage, struck by landscapes passing by,
Mountains standing tall and handsome, possed against a dark blue sky.

Sun is shining brightly, warmly, clouds punctuate the air.
Snow has capped the peaks of tall ones; pine and fir trees everywhere.

Morning air is crisp, delightful, breathing deep stirs soul and mind.
Hear the sounds that fill the vacume, sounds of wild things trying to find

This day’s rations, or one another, as they call from tree to tree,
As they fly upon the currents of the air or of the sea..

We continue up the channel, scenes keep changing as before.
Stunning scenery, ever changing, yet still the same as days of yore.

Every time we turn a corner the view is better than the last.
And yet the last was so amazing, now the new one has gone past.

One is better than another, there is no end of our delight.
And these astounding sights continue on into the Alaskan night.

Riding up a Fiord one morning, looking for the wild things there,
We are sure not disappointed as the wild things are everywhere.

Standing on a grassy bank a huge Brown Bear is prowling, hunting.
High upon the mountainside two mountain goats are playing, punting.

Climbing on a floating buoy, sea lions barking as they play.
Eagles flying high and soaring, hunting, fishing throughout the day.

See also the allusive dolphin, Doll’s Dolphins swimming near.
See how many seals come through here, squealing,
rolling as we close by steer.

Despite all these wonderous creatures,
Most majestic is the Hump Back Whale.
Watch him as he dives, then spouts,
Dives again and flips his tail.

Night returns to my Alaska, evening’s darkness takes its time.
The light remains for hours longer, The sun won’t set till way past nine.

The sky shows light during sleeping hours,
as we peer through the cabin door.
Lovingly embracing all we see here,
Spurring us on to look for more.

Embracing, absorbing, devouring, exploring, doing all that we can do
To make Alaska, our wild country, a part of us, and you can too.
