Spoke slow the General
'The cannon's roaring
to fire'
The sun came low
and
even
the grass burnt
And the cannon
exploding
got on fire.

Well, here is the new persona in action (so to speak) and the description of his slow speech made me immediately think of the GRVITAS of a true leader. Such gravitas inspires, at least in some followers, confidence in his leadership, because his behavior is just the opposite of impulsive, spur of the moment, reckless - all of which gets men killed. (By the way, there's a famous post-World War II novel about that war written by Joseph Heller, CATCH-22. In it a low ranking soldier boldly tells a general that the enemy is anyone who is trying to kill you. Yes, son. what do you mean? Well Sir, by sending me in to battle, you're trying to kill me, so you're the enemy! That passage made a lot of sense to my Vietnam War Era generation. But this is anecdotal, I'm not saying it's true of your General.)
