Sunday Afternoon Blues Poem by Rick Elpers

Sunday Afternoon Blues

Trying in vain to free
Myself from you
Noticing the discomfort
Hoping change within
Will see truth instead of hope
Or fantasy clutching my heart
In a future that has a reality
As I look at you nothing
Shows itself but sorrow
Even as I fake it you must
Sense my dismay at how I'm not able
To overcome you so easily
Parting from today's venture
Has left me sadly empty
Longing for how I felt to love
You.

Rick this is such an excellent write! So emotional, and your word choice is just stellar! I love the way you used the lines. Instead of just a diary piece this is true poetry. It reads so easy and captured me from the start. Such talent. I will be reading more from you.
