That One Remembered Christmas Gift Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

That One Remembered Christmas Gift

There is no better time,
Than this time that comes.
To those young or old.
Poor or rich.
With a doing to afford,
A thankfulness to express it.

Life to live it is not always about gifts.
To give and get them.
Small or big and wrapped.
Tagged with a name,
Of someone excited about that.
And sitting near a decorated tree joyfully.

There is no better time,
Than this time of the year that comes.
To remember who and why,
These festive days we celebrate.
With a doing to appreciate,
The ones who have shown us all their lives...
A doing to sacrifice,
Time to give.
Their love to express unconditionally.

And regardless what we do,
To meet their approval or disapprove.
They were there to be depended upon.

And...
If it had not been for them to do this,
Less would be our merriment to reminisce.
This time of the year that comes to an end.
Especially remembering...
The ones no longer with us but gave,
Their encouragement to expect...
A better year to live to anticipate.
With this gift to get attempting living it.

"Did you get what you wished,
And wanted for Christmas? "

-Every year.
And you? -

"Same stuff.
Nothing much."

-What was it that you wished to get? -

"Something different.
That I didn't know what it was,
Before being told to unwrap it.
Although...
I went along with the program.
And acted as if I was surprised."
