The Assyrian (For M.A.) Poem by Susie Gharib

The Assyrian (For M.A.)

It yearns to greet the light that shines from his eyes,
An Assyrian's, whose arms will rip the blackness that enshrouds its shrines,
Wiping the tears of its minarets with a hand-held flag,
With church-bells ringing for the pledge enthroned in his heart,
With olive trees thirsty for the words that pour from his mouth,
With songs of stone-throwers racing to fill his conscience with smiles,
For the villains of history will kneel to lick the dust beneath his strides.

This poem is dedicated for the warrior who with God's grace will deliver the Holy Land and its shrines from harm.
