The Formidable Gazelle! Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

O my Gazelle! It's easier to capture
the Red Fort in Delhi, the Capital
or the Fort of St. George in Chennai
but harder to enter the fortress
of your heart, as your thoughts of being chaste,
family-honour, virtue, and character
stand as guards to shield you from the lures.
I see love and care in your eyes for me;
yet you ignore the deep sighs I heave,
seeking shelter in thy sacred heart.
I amaze at your prowess in evading
the wheeling vultures and prowling tigers!
When stands Gazelle's virtue, my songs shall stand;
when falls her worth, my breath shall fall and cease!
