The Russian War In The Ukraine And Things Here Poem by Gert Strydom

The Russian War In The Ukraine And Things Here

'Our scientific power
has outrun our spiritual power.
We have guided missiles
and misguided men.'
Martin Luther King jnr.

I am disturbed by an innocent person's death,
touched where civilians put up a barricade,
it's if I can smell the fear on their breath,
feel the heat from a burning building in the shade.

With the death of innocent people I am disturbed,
while about this some people do not now really care,
only with things that do them touch they are perturbed,
maybe they will be excited when war rages everywhere.

Inhuman acts and suffering do me pain bring,
I cannot stand evil that bears others ill,
even if here people are still thriving,
grief and suffering do my heart touch and fill.

I see NATO and Europe readying for war,
America holding help for the Ukraine in check,
while Putin acts like he did before
and nobody do the Ukraine protect.

That a third world war did begin I suspect,
while a president turns off the keystone-pipeline,
does the price of fuel at the Russians direct,
and here the regime with Russia does dine.

With constant power-cuts everything is fine,
with a country dilapidated to the brink,
which is doomed to, much further to decline
and about a global war no one wants to think.

While criminals here thrive with theft,
my observations are silenced as if all is well,
until very extremely no other option is left,
no one wants me of the state of government to tell,

or that probably Putin with his notions carry on,
where he states sanctions is a declaration of war,
until here this way of life is gone
and nothing is left as it was before.
