They Painted The City Blue Poem by Danielle Mari Nidea

They Painted The City Blue

They wished for a city of red
With orange and yellow flames
And gleaming reflections upon the bay
Calling for a thousand names
To come swimming for the lovely light,
To dance with colors resembling life,
And to live to the purpose of red,
And to live to the purpose of red till they bleed,
And live to the purpose of red while they bleed,
And bleed to the purpose of red.
And they did bleed, and they made bleed
The throats of many wives.
And they did cry a colored tear
And it was the only blue thing in the city.
The city had bled a beautiful red
Which has painted the city blue.
