Vigan Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Vigan

I wondered about the people
Who had lived in the distant past
Who walked these stones of cobble
Perhaps with loves that did not last.

I pondered on their journeys
The sound of steps on these old lanes
The windows laced with filigrees
And thin Capiz shells on the panes.

Would ladies look behind their fans
To glance in shy and demure charm
At Romeos who gave their hands
In gallant gesture, held their arm?

I thought about the children then
Who may have played around the place
Those were times Freedom was taken
The land went through enslaving days.

Memories hold much wealth here
A place that's marked with History
Though these are times without the Fear
I know people then walked in Bravery.
