Waiting Poem by Jared Weppelman

Waiting

The clock tells of a new day as the minute hand chimes along.
The seconds can't be slowed no matter how much I wish them wrong.
You said we'd care for each other but now we're apart.
Our promises were never enough even though you hold my heart.

But who will stand for you if I don't?
Who can bear your agony?
Who will take your pain when you can't bear?
Who will answer your every plea?

The sun breaks a new dawn as it's orange light burns forth
Plastic hope begins anew, but I don't know if it has any worth
I want to hold on to this, the only chance I know.
The sea of pain I'm in is trying to make me go.

But who will stand for you if I don't?
Who can bear your agony?
Who will take your pain when you can't bear?
Who will answer your every plea?

And if I'm not there, who will stop your descent?
Who will you trust as your will is bent?
Don't think I can stand by and let you bear every attack.
I've still got strength to watch your back.

So who will fight for you if I don't?
Who else can manage your agony?
Who will accept your pain when you can't bear?
Who else will destroy your misery?

The clock needs winding now. I hate its constant ticking.
The sun has given to the indigo night, but I'm still waiting.
