I warmly remember those winter days
When in our lawns we would set bonfires ablaze,
And our neighbors would automatically swarm
To share with us its glowing warmth.
We would then share the day's experiences
The day to day happenings and occurrences,
While the crackling of burning wood
Sounded harmonious and so soothingly good.
In the leaping fire we roasted sweet potatoes
Brinjal, cassavas and even tomatoes,
While the children would sing and dance
And some amongst them would just pull pranks.
Now those wintry days are long gone
We no more make bonfires or sing songs,
Instead most of us now swarm the TV
And gets glued to the couch with glee.
Yes, sitting around bonfire on wintry days is such a warming experience! The companionship of neighbours, the heart to heart open sharing, the pranks of children all add to the warmth! Now people have a tendency to get glued to the computers and TV and each one withdraws into himself! Those fun filled days of greater intimacy are gone. A beautiful write, Rajesh!
