When Memory Starts To Fail You..... Poem by Savita Tyagi

When Memory Starts To Fail You.....

Rating: 5.0

If you want to know what my memory is like,
Think of an ocean with its shallow waters and its immense depth.
Millions of fishes living in those dark deep waters,
But for my eyes just a couple of them would surface.
Before I could reach out to touch them all would disappear!
This is how my memory is in catching the words,
Phrases or even a long lost phantom existence.
All arise from no where tempting me to
Leave my work at hand and pic my iPad,
But poor me so slow and careless, desperate to hold any,
Standing by shallow waters just to watch them
Evaporate like my breath.... getting lost in thin air!
What stays with me is just a sigh and an awareness.
An impression of something so dear, so vivid and so pleasant
It seems to say you can't catch or share me with others!
But I am still here like a smile of your face
A happy awareness just to please you......

Wonderful portrayal of situations when you find yourself losing your orientation in life. Thanks. Going out like my breath.... getting lost in thin air! What stays with me is just a sigh and an awareness.

hey Savita! on THIS page PH has the title as Diary Inscription Ll..................To Fail You. when you offered it to me for December's showcase, the title read ...........ll, not Ll. and that is the way i put it into Section C. please let me know which is correct. :) :) [i strongly suspect that ll is correct, as i see another similar poem in your poem list using l in its title. i guess they are #1 and #2? Ll would (if they are Roman numerals) be 51 i believe! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - i, too, especially enjoyed: Standing by shallow waters just to watch them Evaporate like my breath.... getting lost in thin air! ..................oops! there goes another one! OF COURSE you are NOT talking about YOU! ! right? i have had some trouble with MY memory recently, but for the life of me, i CAN'T REMEMBER what the trouble was. hmmm? to MyPoemList and into Section C of my/our monthly a showcase for PH poets [for December] it GOES...........! bri :)

An amazing poem, Savita. You have captured the conundrum of failing memory very eloquently. I can remember almost everything I learn but my recall of events is like I had read about them in a brief article and not experienced them personally. (That's if I can remember them at all. Thank you for sharing this.

This is not your singular experience, Savita! Many in our age are often confronted with such a situation. Memory fails, words slip out..... but all is not lost! There is a pleasant awareness still lingering with us! A realistic portrayal of the changes, age brings on us!

Nicely conceived and executed, I liked the theme of the poem.
