Why? Poem by Isabella Francis

Why?

It was a chilly night of Nineteenth December,
The sunny winter had transitioned into a foggy weather.

The night was dark but the moon shone out bold,
I was wrapped with blanket but was still cold.

I needed warmth and I needed it badly
After our breakup I was still in love with him madly.

As soft as cotton balls was his hair,
Though deeply tanned he was still fair.

His eyes were fawn and mine dark chocolate,
Both with each other had looked great,

Bygone were those days that I had spent with him,
Chances of surviving alone were decidedly dim.

Slowly, softly I heard him calling my name,
His voice a little low but all the more same.

I looked towards him, surprised to find him here,
Even after parting ways he was still my dear.

He pushed my blankets away: slipped in beside me,
My heart was going to burst tonight with glee.

His warm feet warmed my toes,
And with each moment he was inching close.

He hugged me and held my hands,
He brushed aside from my face some loose strands.

We lay in arms of each other all through the night,
Without sparks the night had us ignite:

Our passions and our wishes.
Our lips met together in various kisses.

The sunlight had now started to penetrate our eyelids,
As we lay together like little kids.

I opened my eyes to find the eyes of the fawn
And remembered that he won’t be up till dawn.

I snuggled in his chest and went off to sleep again,
Tears cascading down my cheeks as fast as rain.

He wiped them away with his long fingers,
As slowly as the taste of chocolate lingers.

Then he stood up, waved and disappeared,
I was left alone, cold and in tears.
