Oh! For some bluegrass up to my knees
And the sight of some burley, astir in the breeze;
The moo of a cow,
The feel of a plow
And the rustle and stir of spent autumn leaves.
Oh! For some freedom, when'eer I desire,
A life in the open, a life with a car;
The sound of a hoof,
The rain on the roof
And my reveries before an open fire.
Oh! For a life of comparative ease,
In which I'm not ordered, but do as I please;
No facing to rear,
No big brass to fear
And the chance to be happy, with final release.
Now, these are the things most daily I yearn,
These are the things to which I'll return;
The seasons may go,
Come rain, heat or snow,
Nothing shall alter, the home fires still burn.
Written many years after my release from the military
So well expressed; that love, that longing, that resides within each human breast. Wonderful Joseph!
Excellent! I hope you found all those things, Joe! Very moving piece, I'm going to hit 10 with my glass hook! Oops! Let me try that again!
A real pleasure to read, Yearning for home, just wonderful Sir, .
This one would spark a yearning in any heart. Must have been tough to be away from home—especially being in the military. There’s just “no place like home.” Such a beautiful write.10

I am sure there are many who could identify with these feelings Joseph, an extremely good piece of poetry.
