Zarema Hello, People! Rasul Gamzatov Poem by Yuri Starostin

Zarema Hello, People! Rasul Gamzatov

HELLO, PEOPLE!

A proud,
Retentive,
brave,
Eminent and simple
Inspired and skillful,
Not an evil, not a stingy
Strangers and friends
In the season of a snow and a bird- cherry tree,
As a lambs, spineless
And like a children
And angry,
Like a white
Or brown bears,
I thank a people,
«Hello! » - tell them.

An old-timers, new settlers,
And a sad and merry,
Handsome, thick and slabsided
Young and old men
In a workshops and markets,
I thank to a people,
«Hello! » - I tell them.

A shipmans, an artists,
A painters and a cooks
A postmen, and a signallers,
And a poets, and a ministers,
And a balharsky potters,
And a tailor masters
Everyone which builds, plowing, sowing,
Teaches
Cures,
Bread baking
Cherishes all goods,
Get a fight with a bad sides,
I thank to a people,
«Hello! » - tell them.

This is the arm,
Whose every finger
With an other together.
And it is not a wonder,
That a russian and avarian,
An ukrainian and a georgian,
A children of a mountains,
A steppes
A plains
Become,
To a strife contrary,
A fingers of one arm.

And near and far sides,
A man to a man would not
Spoke in our century
In what ever language,
I thank him,
«Hello! » - say proudly.
