A Break Of Tradition

My mom can't be bothered with me
Because her boyfriend dumped her
My dad uses me to hurt her
My sister steals all of my things
My other sister tries to beat me up
Over accidents
My last sister makes cruel jokes about me
My brother isn't ever around
My friends ask what's wrong
My friends try to help
My friends actually care
But I'm supposed to think
That family's always there
And friends aren't

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Looking at the comments, I see much concern for me.... To make things clearer, this is a fictional set of circumstances. I was using this poem to prove a point. In no way is this poem a reflection of my life. The speaker is NOT me. Sorry for the confusion!

Forthright expression of your feelings, well written. I am glad that you spend time creatively instead of letting family life challenges bog you down. You are strong and a purpose-driven person. Keep writing. You are destined to be great! (Report) Reply

Hey tiff..that's the paradox of family; they're too fami-liar with you 2 want to look wrinkle-free. That's supposd 2 show that they trust you enough to appreciate them the way they are. So now show them that you care, just so ur friends wudnt stumble upon their slack moments embarassing you as well. So you see ur mirror(eyes) shudnt b as unaesthetic as they may think, only hopeful(that's a lifetime task-the more committed you are the more piquant ur expectation) i'm still expecting ur comment on any of my poems. No matter how brief. (Report) Reply

    family's always there
    but friends are spares
    cause when things go wrong
then you see which on belongs

a good friend is just to calm the nerves not everything we do on our own sometime we can use the help (Report) Reply

You pick friends. Family is a burden or a blessing. As you get older you get to choose. Good luck. (Report) Reply

Young Love lies sleeping
In May-time of the year,
Among the lilies,
Lapped in the tender light:
White lambs come grazing,
White doves come building there:
