Broken Mirror Poem by Amitava Sur

Broken Mirror

Rating: 5.0

With a sudden gush of air, the mirror, hanging on the wall
Was broken into hundreds of pieces.

Collecting all and uniting them back in the frame
Carefully I hung up the mirror again.

When I stood in front of it, with a big surprise I found-
Hundreds of I's were staring at me -

With so many faces of mine, mostly being unknown
I got astounded and kept on looking at them! !

They were fat and lean, some looked so cunning
Some of them were so gentle and benign.

There, I found some devils even,
Very cruel and ugly were so many! !

Looking at them I was so surprised then,
But they all were staring at me,

So many ‘I's being unknown and weird to me,
I was just comparing me with them.

Feeling so shaken and being nervous
I left that place looking back again and again.

I found them all at a time
Were grinning and snarling at me with a tease.

I bowed down in front of that broken mirror
To reveal me and expose so minutely in deed,

Helping me to be cautious enough
To analyze and correct myself accordingly.

Amitava, this poem is fantastic, so self-reflective, honest, and sincere! ! Simply amazing how it is written, pure, humble and innocent. Rhythm flows evenly throughout, I really like this one. If we could all be so honest in an appraisal of ourselves! Thank you for this message, a truly great write, Amitava. I give you 10/10's. RoseAnn

Excellent..... I must say! There are a hundred faces for us..... malevolent and benign! But we never try to see them or fail to perceive them in their sheer nakedness! We have to learn to look at ourselves as others see us! A very insightful poem Amitava!

Conscience is our snapper. It has our so many pictures that are merged in one. When it is broken its pieces take us to pieces and we see so many of our images, some are beautiful and some are ugly. A nice write............10

In a comfort zone there is little need for us to have a different view, sometimes it takes a crisis before we can see things from another perspective. Very well presented and a smooth read. Thanks
