Burp! Poem by Geetha Jayakumar

Burp!

Plate was full with delightful dishes
Served by the loveable hands
Kept in front of one who
Couldn't enjoy the meal so delicious.
Burp was heard somewhere nearby
every eyes followed the burp
Saw a hungry man eating leftovers
Mouthful with teasing appetite and
tears burping in his contented eyes!

On one side, in abundance, we see people wasting food as they cannot enjoy it! On the other side, we see people savouring even the last morsel, as they rarely have enough to appease their hunger! This disparity is something we cannot easily bridge! But those who have excess should think of their starving brothers and show the magnanimity to share something with them! Geetha, you have drawn two scenes strikingly opposite!

Two situations poles apart are contrasted in this simple poem revealing a truth that things can provide intended satisfaction only in places where they are really needed. For the well-fed man, the delicious food provided was an unwanted luxury, whereas for the hungry one, it was a real delight. Well done.

As a human being, we should see that the basic needs of all are realised, if not we should work for its realization. This poem satisfies this need.Great write.

Touching. my heart felt pain for both sides. one who has all resources but unable to eat and one who can not eat due to lack of money. Oh God! save both of them.

Tears burping in his contented eyes! Simply an outstanding poem. I was wondering about the emotions that hungry man on satisfying his hunger with leftovers must be undergoing. If he was a person fallen into bad times, his emotions would be quite different from that say of a beggar.
