'I am lonely' said my one and only,
'Fear not dear heart I am here to stay, '
'I am lonely' lamented my one and only.
'Fear not dear heart I shan't go away.'
'I am lonely' cried my one and only.
'So am I dear heart, so am I'

The tenderness of this poem is truly moving And it's complex. The speaker has been giving comfort to her partner - in what appears to be a one-sided dynamic. It is that familiar situation where one person is the CARETAKER and the other a TAKER, but now the speaker need such caring and it's not forthcoming. How this will end is not given but it is a tense moment of decision. The speaker's tenderness will prevail: the consistent tone of the poems persuades me of that truth.
You articulate your intention in writing this poem clearly and completely in your prose comment. Let me just add how simply but skillfully you cinched your message in that wistful closing line. It reveals the egoism of the other person exploiting the intimacy of their relationship to deal with his/her problems and never saying, So enough about me. How are you feeling?
two lonely people? Maybe dear heart needs to figure out why her/his one and only is lonely. maybe it is time for a change? i like the rhyming and am intrigued by the dialogue. i'm actually a bit baffled, but i'll send it to MyPoemList, where the poem, at least, won't be lonely. bri :)
Wonderful conversation of heart and mind. This I ness is so elusive in its source!
