Is That Too Much To Ask? Poem by Marquita Lawson

Is That Too Much To Ask?

Chorus
I don't want to sing somebody else's love song
I don't want to cry myself to sleep
All I want is a little joy and laughter
Is that too much to ask? Is it too much to ask?

Baby girl, cryin' all alone in the dark.
Momma's gone this evenin'- she's playin' in the park.
Baby girl, don't you cry anymore;
Someone watches over you. Your Father is watching you.

Family's gone, youngster on the street,
She's the Black sheep of the family, goes beggin' to eat
Young girl, don't you beg anymore
Your Father provides your needs, just give Him your heart

She says;
I don't want to sing somebody else's love song
I don't want to cry myself to sleep
All I want is a little joy and laughter
Is that too much to ask? Is it too much to ask?

He says, "Child, you are mine, I'll never turn you away
I'll hold you forever, just come home today
I want to give you peace and freedom
And anything you ask, in My name is yours…
Just don't sing anybody else's love song;
Talk to Me when you want to go to sleep.
I'll give you life full of joy and laughter...
It's all that you've asked, but you can ask more of Me…

She says:
I'll only sing Your praises and Your love songs
And I'll talk to You as I lay me down to sleep
You've filled my life full of joy and laughter
It's more than I've asked, yet You keep giving to me…
I won't sing somebody else's love songs
I won't cry myself to sleep
All I wanted was a little joy and laughter
It's more than I've asked, yet You keep giving to me…
