The Hippo And The Baby Zebra Poem by Stephen Katona

The Hippo And The Baby Zebra

Rating: 3.0

Star of this story of course,
Is Harriet the hippo, a river horse.

One day she saw a zebra foal,
Faced with an impossible goal.
To cross the mighty River Mara,
Just part of a great saga,
To reach green grass,
With thousands en mass,
In the Serengeti plain,
Across tricky terrain.
The current so fast,
How could he last,
Growing so weak,
His future bleak.

But shaped like a barrel,
Came an amazing mammal,
To help to safety,
This zebra baby.
Harriet pushed his flank,
Over to the bank,
With all her might,
To our delight,
Until he stood on land,
A sight so grand.

To explain the behaviour,
Of our saviour,
Her nearest relation,
Is really cetacean,
And dolphin or whale,
Would love this tale.
