Wet Monday Blues. Poem by Fay Slimm

Wet Monday Blues.

Rating: 5.0

Why does rain never affect me the same
On any other day of the week?
Weekend fun done, I expect some
Monday sun sometimes, not this bleak
Drivingly incessant rain. I look in vain
For a last minute Monday reprieve
But still get the wet-Monday blues!

I could, if I choose change the name.
Sad-sounding 'Mournday' needs cheering.

Then the sun may be coaxed nearer
To showing his face. Was it in ancient
Fear that mourning, performed in the drear
Atmosphere of a Monday, besmearing games
Must have caught on, because from then on
There's been enough of the drizzly stuff
Daubing with teardrops of wet we call rain.

So lets wave a wand over more days of yore,
Perhaps then wet-Monday spells will be gone!

This is a delightful and astute poem about those rainy Mondays that so often get our week off to a dreary start, Fay. A rainy Monday does tend to get us down, while rain on any other weekday has little effect on us. It's something I've always wondered about, too, but have never gone far enough to write a poem about...yet! Your enjoyable write was a refreshing approach to this annoying quirk of Nature. Carl.

A very thought provoking piece Fay, Mondays are miserable days, back to work days and they used to be washday so maybe that would be the reason for hoping it was dry, good writing, 10 Lynda xx

Yeah, you & me both... 'Tell me why, I don't like Mondays...' I try to see them as MON(EY) DAYS... Just got to get through this day & the next four cos this is how I pay the bills AND better still, for the weekends, to go out & have a ball ; -)
