Will The Owl Hoot A Requiem? Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Will The Owl Hoot A Requiem?

You've the desire to fasten your heart with mine
but you put it away as if with scorn
and set thy longing looks somewhere
and make me a listless reader in the morn.

Be my love and flight thy fancy skyhigh
Or lie upon the rocks where the falls make cool.
The breeze from the vales will heal thy mind's sores
and carry the tunes of birds into your ears.

The calls of cuckoo augur well for our love!
Is there any better harbinger to bless us both?
See the quiet owl sitting on the tree
to hoot a requiem if you shun smiles.

What hampers you from lightening my face serene?
Why prefer to sing the heart-moving threne (threnody) ?
