My Old Friend

I know you never think twice about me anymore
But don't you remember all the things we did before
From crying on each others shoulders
To laughing each others heads off
We were everything you could envy about having a friend
I was having the time of my life
In my highest point of happiness
Until one day I couldn't hang around as much
As I grew sadder
You grew distant
It was as if my own sadness was too much for you too bear
That you had to leave
And leave me alone
All by myself
For months I wondered what I did wrong
What I should have done to keep you such a good friend by my side
What I could have done differently to not be such a burden to you
I cried day after day
Week after week
Month after month
Until there wasn't anymore sadness left to spill
There was just rage and fury at how you could leave me behind
How you could leave a person who needed a shoulder to cry on the most behind
I'm sorry I couldn't party so hard with you to the point where you needed new friends
I'm sorry I wasn't there to have a good time with you when you wanted me to
I'm sorry I was an emotional wreck that was too much for you too handle
And while I was so enraged with hatred for you I still wanted the best for you
I still hoped that your new friends were nice to you
And were there for you
And listened to you complain about anything and everything like I used to do
It's funny because when I look back on our friendship from my perspective now
I don't know how I handled you
I was never the one who was too much to handle
It was you
You were the emotional burden
I was the one who listened and listened
Til my emotions that sat inside of me like a volcano became too much too bear
So I let them all out
But that was too much for you too handle
So you left me behind
