Suicide Horses
blue yellow horses' gaze slows
at midnight's meandering meadows,
some return early for dinner,
some with old friends dine out,
their taste-buds mistake in hunger
the sweating grasses for smoked sunflower;
some get tipsy in fog, & phantasise & doubt
their shepherdess's maiden name,
of this some feel too ashamed, & go haunting
the meadows in midnight's foggy flame
to kill & curse their dislocated phantasies.
sunflower stil can't suffer their shame, & wants
to stab its throat in vain with a thin sword of grass;
a false mourning of failed death
numbs its nose & bleeds its breath.
returned horses hallucinate in their
shepherdess's sunflower barn
without har true name, without har to warn
horses can savour their death's belated flavour:
some savour by hanging from the mute midnight sun-
their shepherdess's slumbering wooer,
and some by hallucinating in a smoked sunflower-
their shepherdess's suicide mister.
