The Texas Desert

I remember walking through the desert

My shoes were filled with hot sand
My hairs felt like spines stabbing my leg

Almost cold

The crucial heat kissed my cheek
As it steamed up my clothes

I could have tasted the dryness around me

I heard hissing and slithering sounds in my ear
Debating whether I was losing my mind

Or snakes on my feat

My bangs were glued to my cheek
And my hair was leaking,
A nasty, smelly liquid called sweat

I kept walking
walking
walking

The sand never seemed to stop

So, I ran

I sprinted across the grains of heat,
Screaming until my lungs popped

Just when I fell,
I rose

I rose awake in my own bed
with sheets wet with sweat

I awoke with the Texas flag smiling at my ear
So I smiled back
