With servants 'aplenty and always to hand

Where did they go-the times we knew
Those voices...people passing through
Such memories, places, fading fast
When young, we thought they'd always last
...

Gathering pace with effortless grace
Sometimes no more than a silent trace
Emerging from that humble source
To wind its final seaward course
...

Come on, you all know me...
I am known to rich and poor
I appear in every town
And I knock on every door
...

Duty called and I went to war
Though I'd never fired a gun before
