My father's care,
His constant, gentle acts
Of love -

The Dance

I brace myself for
Pain,
As the inevitable dance begins
Again,
The military two-step
Of domestic strife.

Conscious of trouble,
The air bristles and vibrates,
As the careful harmony
Of our pas de deux
Falters,
Helplessly.

Then all our steps
Go out of sync.

You wrap your self
In silent immobility,
While I,
Forever stupid,
Dance a giddy jig,
The prima ballerina now
But with no
Style!

And then it comes to me...
Even when having rows,
It takes two
To tango.
