Manfred Peter Hein Biography

Manfred Peter Hein, born 1931, and described by the German writer Johannes Bobrowski as, “a German poet from Finland”, is not known only for his work as a poet, but also as a promoter of Finnish culture in German speaking countries.

Hein has lived in Finland for more than 50 years, where he writes poems in German, and translates texts into German from a variety of other languages, including Estonian, Finnish, Latvian and Czech. His translations include the works of authors such as Paavo Haavikko and Amanda Aizpuriete.
