We know it was hard to understand
Why we weren't there to hold your hand
To comfort you when we had to part
But you knew we held you in our hearts
...
If you're hearing this, I must have gone
Not out to lunch, or having fun
Not sitting laughing with my friends
No, this is where my story ends
...
Making connections requires precision
From timetable data you make your decision
Leaving at one you can be there by three
And returning at four you'll be back home for tea
...
No more shall I wake to your touch
Feel your breath on my face as we kiss
Hear your voice as you call out my name
There is so much of you I shall miss

Hold On To My Heart
We know it was hard to understand
Why we weren't there to hold your hand
To comfort you when we had to part
But you knew we held you in our hearts
All those times that you cared for us
And loved the kids, and made a fuss
But we weren't allowed to comfort you
To hug you as we wanted to.
Just one last chance to feel your touch
Surely that is not too much
to ask, but after all these years
We had no cuddles, only tears.
We want to say mum, even though
We weren't allowed to see you go
Our love for you is just as strong
Although our parting felt so wrong
So now we have to make a vow
To keep you in our thoughts somehow
While life continues day to day
Our love will never die away.
We promise mum that you are here
In every laugh and every tear
It's sad that we were not together
But you're in our hearts and minds forever.
