10 Past 10 Poem by prabhakar bhatlekar

10 Past 10

History...
frozen in a crumpled
sepia photo with a bit torn
edges. Slight hazy image
of a disarranged wooden bed
with decorative rail,
A blood-soaked pillow, where
the President breathed last.
Single shot Derringer
ended the era.Here,
history is staring at you.
In the theatre beyond street
President laughed at a joke
in play, death swiftly
approached from behind...
10 past 10.
His crumpled body was rushed
to the bed in opposite house
His lanky frame made sprawl
diagonally as the bed was
too short for him.
Just some days back the
bloody war between
brothers ended claiming
750000 lives
creating unforgettable
blood-soaked history.
President declared dead.
The body was taken away.
A photographer rushed to
the room-now empty
and took a snap of the bed,
disarranged, with a blood
soaked pillow and history.
