17 Years Poem by Thomas Dooley

17 Years

17 years since I last saw you
I wonder did you lose me or did I lose you
Ever since that day I made that move

I wonder what you would look like next to me
What would I look like next to you?
Often felt like a fool alone with you

I wonder what it would be like to belong to you
Would it make me a boy or man?
You take those chances that I can't

17 years since you last saw me
I wonder did I lose you or did you lose me
Ever since that day I gave up those dreams

I left searching for a new life and you come to mind
Pictures inside telling stories of many lies
Too much pride to put you out of my life

I heard you had a new plan in life
You want to be a pretty man's girlfriend
That is not being a wife

17 years since I touched you
I wonder did you want to kiss me did I want to kiss you
Will your lips ever go cool?

I wonder about the woman you are
As I dream of the woman you would be with me
What would you look like when you lose your breath when we connect?

I wonder did I love you or just desired you
Secrets you had of me where they just curious dreams
That would never be more than a dream

17 years since we were friends
I wonder did the distance change that
What is the chance we meet again in this cycle of life?
