40 Years Of Us (A Love Story Written In Stars And Moonlight) Poem by Faith Cecelia Story

40 Years Of Us (A Love Story Written In Stars And Moonlight)

From the moment I first saw you,
A quiet boy, with eyes like dawn,
I was just five, you six, so new—
Yet my heart knew where it belonged.

We played beneath that African sky,
With no phones, no screens, no lies.
Under stars, we'd laugh and hide,
Stealing kisses, side by side.

In the gardens where the yams would grow,
We played our games, in sun's soft glow.
The others chose the groom with care,
But no one else could take my place there.

For you, the peacekeeper, so serene,
A gentle soul, my childhood dream.
I'd call for you, and you'd be near,
In my heart, you always stayed clear.

Years went by, the games grew sweet,
As we found in each other hearts that beat.
From childhood love to teenage sparks,
We held a flame through the passing dark.

We moved apart, life's paths were wide,
Different journeys, worlds to bide.
But our bond remained, like the moon above,
A pull that no distance could shove.

We tried to walk away, found others' arms,
Yet those same hearts were torn by charms,
For no matter the years or the time apart,
We carried each other deep in our hearts.

Through trials and struggles, storms and pain,
We kept our love, like the sun after rain.
It bloomed in tulips, and through the years,
It watered the soil with endless tears.

You—my quiet one, my anchor true,
I spoke too loud, but you always knew,
That beneath the noise, my love was clear,
Even when I pushed, you stayed near.

Through every fight, through every tear,
You walked with me, through every fear.
When we blocked each other, turned away,
We found our way back, night or day.

A love misunderstood, they didn't know,
That what we had was built to grow.
Like roses with thorns, it's not for the weak,
But in the soil, our hearts would speak.

Our love is no fairy tale, no easy ride,
It's a fire that flares, a wave's tide.
And yet, through it all, we never fell,
For we are more than the world can tell.
