A Bus Poem Ii

At such moments 'hernias need not be a problem'.
'If adolescent problem are pushing you to the brink'
'squeeze your way to shapely hips and thighs'
'deep asleep in your beautiful, clear skin'.

Faintly then sounds the porter's cry
that normally pierces the ear like an awl
now like a shepherd calling his flock
or conscience's underwater bawl.
Watch out, though, lest you miss your stop,
as I did once, overshooting Wall
to wake up, aghast, in Borough Hall.

Getting where you've gone, simply do as you did
at the outset, only exactly in reverse:
from the darkness of the duffle withdraw your happy head,
replace it on your shoulders rested and refreshed
certain by the click to be back on it's thread-
tighten and go forward, suited to face
that miserable boss, that really tough case.
