A Foreigner About Brexit Poem by Almas Assylbekov

A Foreigner About Brexit

I ain't British.
But if I were...
So, would I care
about the nation's future way -
to leave or stay?
Who knows? - the question that still remains
in millions of disjunct brains.
Two halves of the opposed views
so much influenced by news.
Who knows... Would I say the same?
When foreigners ask Brits in vain:
What's next?
And Brits just shrug again...
Could I be proud of the game
where rules are changing while playing,
when values are replaced by aims,
and sides keep arguing and blaming?
If I were British,
I would say:
What happened, my UK?
Are we no longer the United Kingdom?
Are we now the Uncertain Kingdom?
Who knows - not the choice of freedom!
Who knows - not the nation's hope!
And not the answer to the World...
