A Forgotten Place Poem by Mpho Leteng

A Forgotten Place

Like a dying duck in the thunderstorm
we searched the next world for freedom;
attempts to fight 'till end came out dry,
we are now slaves of the next world!

my burning impulses tell a story never been told;
our dreams are hidden curses of a life still to come
cutting deep into our bound wrists,
hearts thumping with pulses of fears;

retrospection of the Barannqwe everflowing stream,
dead cattle, abondoned graveyards, unaccomplished forefathers dream;
Dinalanyana, Matomporo and Sandweza's dead ending,
Khuting, Mpeteke and Kobonngo gums still standing.

over partly bare Kachikau grounds,
Mampimpinyane's in Kataba leaping
dropping bitter tears on the land where kgosi Mologasele is sleeping;
this is a forgotten place!
