A Heart With Two Homes Poem by Melissa Andrea Rivero Wong

A Heart With Two Homes

I, TOO, SING AMERICA.

I know it’s been whispered before
But not in my own word
Of a place where I belong
And I will never deny
The distance of my Peru
Where I used to run and play around El Castillo Unanue
When I was waiting from the sunrise that will cover my face with harmony and happiness
El sol que transformaba los dias en placer
And with my typical food ceviche y mariscos
Sopa seca and Caucau
Yes, I’m going to sing America now
Where my heart is cut in half for two countries
Countries that i will learn and I'll teach
With different culture and language
I will bring dreams and hope to this new world
But my Peru
My land where all my past is there
I can wait to go back again
My history en Peru will never end
Mi Cañete donde yo naci
And I can scream so you can hear
Yes, that’s part of me
El canto de mi himno
That can make all Peruvian cry and sing it loud
So you can see how proud we are
Las Lineas De Nazca
Mysteries and remarkable things
With no answer, but you can see is real
Aja, ese es mi pais
Mi Mancora y Asia
My beaches so beautiful
The funniest places in summer you can go to enjoy mi Peru
Esta es my new song
Si, mi musica criolla
Mis Incas
And my treasures
That’s part of me too
Yo tambien soy Peruana
But my last voice will be
I, too, am America
