A Look -409 Poem by Smruti Ranjan Mohanty

A Look -409

A LOOK -409

If I am true to you
and honest in my love,
it will never let you fall,
it will never let you sink.

It will help you tide over
the hot summer and the chill winter.
Tell me, my love!
What is that love
which cannot see the loved one through all hurdles?

My prayers will stand beside you
like a silent candle in the moonless night.

It will shield you from all
that I never wish to touch you—
the violent weather
and the turbulent sea.

For love, when pure and selfless,
true and unalloyed,
becomes a shelter of its own.

And perhaps that is what love truly is—
to stand before the storm
before it reaches you.

Even the storm
learns to pass you by.

For it knows,
to touch you,
it must first run over me.

What is that love
which cannot see the loved one through all hurdles?
