A Look -416 Poem by Smruti Ranjan Mohanty

A Look -416

A LOOK-416

What have I given you
over the years
except some bleeding wounds?

Yet, I have given
everything I have,

my heart and soul,
my hopes and emotions,
smiles and tears.

What can a caged bird
give you except his heartfelt prayers,
which may mean nothing to you?

Still, I kept hoping
that one day you would hear
the silence behind my words.

I am sorry
I have hurt you time and again,
though I never intended to,
not even in the wildest of my dreams.

If my love has caused you pain,
let my tears carry my apology.

Do not turn away.
Come alive
if you want me to live
and smile again.

For when you move away,
something within me dies
too.
