A Look-413 Poem by Smruti Ranjan Mohanty

A Look-413

New poem

A LOOK-413

How is it
I have learned
to withstand your silence?

Strange how
I have made peace with myself
to endure
your indifference.

Time has taught me a lot.

Pain has become
my lonely teacher.

I understand your smile.
I understand your cheers and tears.
I have learned to live with
your changing moods
and restless priorities.

I have learned many things.

Yet the heart
keeps one lesson unfinished.

Yet I know not
how to live in your absence,
when even your shadow
is no longer there.

You leave me
in my lonely cell,
where I grope through darkness,

waiting,
still waiting,

hoping that
the very next moment
a single ray of light
will find its way to me.

Until then,
I keep my door open
for your return,
and my soul open
to the dawn
that bears your silent signature.
