A Meeting On New Year's Eve Poem by Istabraq Al Ahmadi

A Meeting On New Year's Eve

I met my friend on New Year's Eve,
And said to him: " Why is there no light
In your eyes, no blood and soul inside?
You still stand erect, as a palm tree
with a shrapnel in the middle of its trunk,
As if you are a breath bending
under the weight of untold sorrow,
Your heart is blown by the wailing wind,
your face covered by dark patches
of a night studded with tears and pain."
All what he said was that
his two-day daughter died
at the last day of last December.
