A Moth Drawn To The Flame Poem by Xolani Mario Majola

A Moth Drawn To The Flame

Rating: 5.0

I am but a wanderer, drawn to the fire in you—
an unyielding force, fierce yet true,
never fading, never free.

No matter the storms that rise in my path,
I will find my way back to you,
chasing the warmth, the spark, the glow,
even if it tests me, even if it burns.

I am but a captive of your light, unwavering and bold,
fuelled by the certainty that in your blaze,
I am not lost—I am home.

The speaker compares themselves to a moth, drawn to the fiery presence of someone they deeply admire or love. This flame represents an intense force—a person, an emotion, or a consuming passion—that is both captivating and potentially dangerous. Despite challenges ('the storms that rise in my path') and the risk of being hurt ('even if it burns') , the speaker willingly follows this light, seeing it as their guiding force. The poem ultimately suggests that, rather than being lost in this intense connection, the speaker finds a sense of belonging and purpose ('I am not lost—I am home') .
