A Painful Omission Poem by DILIPBHASKER MATHRA

A Painful Omission

Why did you come
After the lapse of boundless years?
The path which you left
Years behind still remains
Dark and dull.
On that path I am lying dismally
Like a skeleton shadow.
I think
You came here atlast
To console this scallywag.
The Sun, the moon and stars
Died in my life long ago.
Yet, I remember, those were
The days of harmony and joy.
The flowers blossomed then are
Dried and vanished
The hopes nursed were simply nugatory.
I couldn’t expect
The dream we wove together
Would shatter by avalanche of misfortune
That time is past
But those mournful events haunting
Yet my memory
Though I questioned your scandalous attribute
You scoffed me as a scoundrel
And left to seek immoral pleasure
Leaving me in slackness.
And now you come to reconcile
I would believe
The derelicted relation
Can never be restored again.
The past never comes
Nor can bring back
Not even for a moment.
Thus I should prefer to have
Parted my way from you
This omission is for ever
To relieve my mind from further obligation.
