A Poem For Sassy Ann Poem by Sally Dupre

A Poem For Sassy Ann

I remember the day that Jerry brought her home,
it seems so long ago.
we welcomed her in, to help heal our hearts,
from the loss of our beloved Shilo.

She snapped at her tail and chased it in circles,
and would leap at a bird like a frog.
she could catch a milk bone off the end of her nose,
we would call her our little circus dog.

she ran off when she saw something to chase,
she never would come when I'd call.
in her early years she'd chew everything up...
except HER favorite ball.

Somehow she always knew in advance,
there were donuts in the house.
and eat every bite if she got a taste,
....but she'd leave me ALL of a dead mouse!

No one got past her, she barked if she'd see you,
I always knew someone was there.
so we posted a sign at the front of the road saying
Watch out for the Dog, Beware.

But the years went by and her pace did slow
and her barks far and few between.
and she'd greet you more than likely
instead of being mean.

Sadly Sassy has passed away and what is left
are her blankets and her bones.
memories, photos, some dog food and treats
her cat friends seem so alone.

Oh, how I miss that dog of mine now that she is gone.
I say goodbye old pal,
a friend to all, a loyal companion,
our Sassy....our good ol' gal.
