A Prince Was Born - Poem by Ibrahim Sambo

On this day
By the red creeping river
Walled by
Full breasted banana trees
A prince was born

On this day
When midnight
Had put all his enemies asleep
For the kingdom
A prince was born

On this day
Green fields of Donga
Danced Lera
To mystical strokes of the breeze

Towns and clans
Thronged en masse

They felt the alarum
The message from ivory trumpets
Alarming in multiple vrooms
Indeed
A prince was born today
