A tree I remember
2 Mar 2026
As the bells rang
We girls in short skirts
Rushed out of classrooms
To the shades of this gulmohar tree
Waiting to unpack
Our delicious lunches
Under the warmth of the tree
So summer sun can disturb us
As the tree sheltered us like a mother
We ganged up in circles
Cherishing each mother's cooking
One dried flower falling in between
Like wanting to share our meal
As we grew up, the tree did too
Spreading branches n it's shade
The farewell day, I remember hugging it tight
After years, went back to the school
Playground changed, school wall colors too
But one thing remained constant
Waiting for a repeate hug
This time I hugged it tight
With all my love and cherishing it's might.
It gave us shade n hope
Gave us memories and life
