Abiding Poem by B. V. Dahlen

Abiding

Around me I sense
A time long expired,
As brick surrounds plaster
Enclosing recall
Of dissimilar lineage,
And unhurried tempos,
Unfamiliar faces
Who dwelled in this hall.

This house was not only
Their shelter and haven,
Reflection of taste,
Disposition and role;
Erected to show forth
The family's position.
It stands as a tribute,
Endures with a soul.

Entrusted to my care,
Their history, character,
A passed generation
Prevails here within.
My home is an album
Of time's essence captured,
Preserving a portrait
Of that which has been.
